Mactan Cebu International Airport Transfers

Mactan Cebu International Airport is the primary gateway for international travel between the Philippines and other countries. With over 8 million domestic and 4.5 million international passengers annually, it’s one of the busiest airports in the country.

The expansion of its facilities saw services offered at this airport increase rapidly. The airport has been servicing more than 12 million passengers annually since the opening of the new international terminal in 2018.

To efficiently serve its clients, Mactan Cebu Airport provides several types of public transport at the facility, including rental cars, buses, taxis, and jeepneys. Shuttle buses are also available for group travelers.

Rental Cars – The car rental companies at Mactan-Cebu Airport have desks located in the public arrivals area of the airport. It is recommended to arrange for the rental car of choice before arriving at the airport to ensure the availability and readiness of the vehicle. Unless otherwise instructed, rental cars are returned to the rental car park.

Taxis – The flag down rate for a white taxi starts at P40.00 (0.80 US$), with an additional P13.00 (0.25 US$) for every succeeding kilometer. Fare for yellow taxis starts at P70.00 (1.40 US$). They operate 24 hours daily.

Note that yellow cabs are for arriving passengers to a local destination only, while white taxis service departing and arriving passengers to and from the city or airport. Arriving passengers from international destinations are advised to take the yellow cab to their local destination. More about taxis at Cebu Airport. Passengers with special needs can directly hire a taxi at the airport’s Help Desk center

Buses – MyBus provides efficient transportation from Mactan Cebu International Airport to SM City Cebu and vice versa from 6 am to 9 pm daily. SM is one of the biggest shopping malls in the city. The bus leaves at both stations every 20 minutes. More about buses to and from Cebu Airport.

Rideshares - Rideshares do appear to be available at Mactan-Cebu Airport, however, they are not as yet endorsed by the airport. Private transfers can be arranged in advance of arrival at Cebu Airport using the form above.

Hotel Shuttles - Many hotels in Cebu offer an airport shuttle service - often (but not always) at an additional cost, and should be booked in advance.

Trains - Why there aren't any currently, but might be in the future:

In the early 20th century, the Philippines experienced a rise in infrastructure development. In 1911, a 92 km railway system was built to connect Cebu City to neighboring towns to the north and southern part of the island.

In 1942, this railway system was destroyed by World War II and never repaired. Despite many proposals to rebuild the line, none came to fruition. There is an ongoing discussion between government agencies to construct a rail transport system.

The Mactan–Cebu International Airport Passenger Transport System is a planned automated people mover system that will connect the airport to nearby resorts and hotels, as well as downtown Cebu.

The rail will comprise two lines: one from the airport to nearby resort areas and another leading to downtown Cebu.

The proposal has been around for more than a decade but still awaits government approval. Under the original plan, the Cebu Monorail Transit System will be funded by the government of Japan. (As of February 2021, the project is still awaiting government approval.

Today, Jeepneys continue to be the most popular means of transport to ordinary Filipinos. There is a separate terminal for them outside the main gate of MCIA.

The vehicles have been plying the streets since the end of the war. These were reconditioned vehicles left by the American military in 1945. But they are small, unsafe, and can accommodate 12-20 persons at a time only.

The Cebu government is slowly phasing out the jeepneys entirely in favor of buses and modern modes of transport. These vehicles are not sustainable anymore due to heavy traffic and pollution.
